{"id":7163,"date":"2018-08-08T12:44:34","date_gmt":"2018-08-08T12:44:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/work.life\/?p=7163"},"modified":"2025-02-28T08:21:36","modified_gmt":"2025-02-28T08:21:36","slug":"charity-committee-future-dreams","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/work.life\/blog\/charity-committee-future-dreams\/","title":{"rendered":"The Work.Life Charity Committee: Bingo Night supports Future Dreams"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-7168\" src=\"https:\/\/work.life\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/bingo-300x139.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"701\" height=\"325\" srcset=\"https:\/\/work.life\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/bingo-300x139.png 300w, https:\/\/work.life\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/bingo-768x355.png 768w, https:\/\/work.life\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/bingo.png 937w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 701px) 100vw, 701px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After an incredible night <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/work.life\/blog\/charity-committee-reach-out\/\">raising money for Reach Out<\/a><\/strong> in Bermondsey, it was Camden\u2019s turn to take the reins to raise money and awareness for another incredibly important cause.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/futuredreams.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Future Dreams<\/a><\/strong> is a breast cancer charity that was started by a mother and daughter, Sylvie Henley and Danielle Leslie, when they were both diagnosed with breast cancer. Tragically, both lost their lives to the disease within a year of each other in 2009. Their dream was to make sure no one faced breast cancer alone, and the charity has since raised over one million pounds to move towards making this a reality.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-7167\" src=\"https:\/\/work.life\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/future-dreams-300x124.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"699\" height=\"289\" srcset=\"https:\/\/work.life\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/future-dreams-300x124.png 300w, https:\/\/work.life\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/future-dreams-768x317.png 768w, https:\/\/work.life\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/future-dreams.png 939w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 699px) 100vw, 699px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/futuredreams.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Future Dreams<\/a> <\/strong>focus on support, awareness and research. They work with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breastcancerhaven.org.uk\/\">Breast Cancer Haven<\/a> <\/strong>in hospitals in London to offer personalised support which may come in the form of counselling, therapies and nutrition advice, as well as a consultation with a BCH nurse.<\/p>\n<p>1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime and Future Dreams are working to ensure women and men know their bodies and the signs to look for, so that should any symptoms show, they can be acted upon as soon as possible.<\/p>\n<p>They have recently used their funding to produce a Secondary Breast Cancer Resource Pack with<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breastcancercare.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Breast Cancer Care<\/a><\/strong>. The pack is to ensure that people living with secondary breast cancer receive only accurate and reliable information, supporting them to deal with the day to day impact of their secondary diagnosis and treatment.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-7169\" src=\"https:\/\/work.life\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/future-dreams-2-300x200.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"701\" height=\"467\" srcset=\"https:\/\/work.life\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/future-dreams-2-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/work.life\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/future-dreams-2-768x512.png 768w, https:\/\/work.life\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/future-dreams-2.png 937w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 701px) 100vw, 701px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Since the charity began in 2008, Future Dreams have donated over 1.2 million pounds to research projects that are working towards understanding breast cancer better.<\/p>\n<p>Future Dream\u2019s long-term aim is to open a house to allow more patients based in Central, North and East London to utilise the much needed services provided by Breast Cancer Haven, completely free of charge. There, they will provide therapies to address the physical and emotional symptoms and side effects of each woman&#8217;s medical treatment. Support will include image workshops, life-coaching, financial advice and nutritional advice on exercise and healthy eating.
